So much Harry Potter!

We've been busy all week but for some reason it felt like a long one.

Mackenzie was home sick with a cold on Monday, Finley got a runny nose on Wednesday and Kiersten was laid out from Friday evening until Sunday morning. So far Scott has avoided the sickness.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 31, Kiersten attended a birthday party for our neighbor who is a bigger Harry Potter fan than us. K baked a Harry Potter themed cake, since our neighbor also shares her birthday with the famous wizard, and had a lovely Girls Night. During the evening she picked up another potential personal training client and oddly, a saxophone student. The woman who was hosting the party has a high school age son who plays saxophone and they have been looking for a tutor/teacher for a while and Kiersten landed on their doorstep, literally. So that'll be interesting.
Inspired from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the movie.

Friday was Kiersten's Dad's birthday and to celebrate she made strawberry shortcake cupcakes and we had our friends Brenda and Netza over for Brenda's delicious Costa Rican mini tacos and a 3 hour game of Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle. We were playing the last expansion pack and were defeated by Lord Voldemort after all our efforts! Next time!
Shortbread crust, strawberry-vanilla cake, strawberry Swiss meringue
buttercream frosting with a fresh strawberry and shortbread cookie on top.

Near the beginning of the game before disaster struck and Kiersten was feeling very sick.

Saturday was a low key day. Kiersten spent the morning in bed sleeping. Scott and Mackenzie drove the car to be washed then walked to the park to play. Scott also performed a number of household chores including cleaning the pool which has been neglected due to the colder temps. We ordered pizza for dinner and called it a day.

We attended church in the morning, called family in the afternoon and Scott headed to choir solo since Kiersten wouldn't have been able to sing much anyway.
Getting her nails done. She is 'girl' through and through.

Reading a story with the one and only Miss Marcia who is also Grandma!

Today Kiersten had lunch with some American member ladies and it was nice to talk about spiritual things in English and to build that bond. Mackenzie had a birthday party at school and Finley is full on crawling as of today.
Enjoying the playground.

Craft Corner:

  • Kiersten finished the embroidery wall in Finley's room! Last thing to tie up the room is a framed picture of an adorable llama.

The Mackenzie Update:

  • She is working on counting past 10 in both languages.
Didn't want to get her "Anna" hair wet during her bath one night.
  • She has started to read stories to Finley. The first successful story, with page turns and all was "5 little monkeys jumping on the bed".
  • She is definitely getting more independent in all aspects of life. She will set herself on a task and do as much as she can by herself and then ask for help when she can't do it. Climbing on and off her stool, getting dressed, going to the bathroom, etc.
So many patterns going on and one more underneath her pink shirt you can't see!
(It's a black tank top with white hearts.)
The Finley Report:
  • Yup, she's a real crawler now. And boy is she fast! She sets her sights on something and boom! she's there!
  • She is starting to mimic sounds. Especially high pitched ones like squeals or screeches. She is even trying to match pitches!
They are playing together more and more! So sweet!
  • Now that she can crawl she is moving on to the next milestone, pulling herself up on things. Right now its just up onto her knees but that's something.
  • Finley got her 9 month shots on Friday! Mackenzie came and gave her great moral support.
Ten more days before our Bariloche skiing/snowboarding trip!
