We arrived at our Beach house/condo late on our first day after driving all the way through Florida. The next day, Friday, we geared up for our beach day. It was a little chilly but otherwise nice. We were some of the only people on the beach which added to the enjoyment. We all built sandcastles and looked for seashells and waved to walkers as they crossed our way. It was nice to be around English again! After a few chilly dips in the water it was time to go. The girls slept 3-4 hours during nap time! Guess they were tired! That afternoon we went for a walk at a driftwood beach which was very cool.
The rest of our stay at the beach was cloudy, windy and rainy. Saturday we went to an indoor nature center and played a short round of mini golf. The girls had a blast! After quiet time we went to Fort Clinch and got very windswept while admiring the ins and outs of the fort.
Sunday was more rainy and we decided a trip to the Jacksonville zoo was in order along with lots of other people. It was surprisingly crowded! But the features were pretty incredible and the girls enjoyed seeing lots of animals.
Monday was our last day at the beach and it was still cloudy. We took a drive up into Georgia to visit a roadside submarine attraction, an old sugar mill and found a great park. In the afternoon we walked around a different driftwood beach to say goodbye to the ocean.
Tuesday was a driving day up to Hendersonville, NC to our fantastic rental cabin. We stopped in Georgia for lunch at Moe's and continued on our journey. It was a long driving day and we were all very happy when we reached the amazing cabin. Mackenzie fell in love with the bunkbeds and asked if we could stay forever!
Wednesday we began our hiking and exploring adventuring. We went to Chimney Rock and enjoyed the spectacular views. The girls had a great time throwing rocks in a stream once we got down the mountain and had lunch at a local cafe. The girls both passed out on the drive back to town and we stopped for custard. After that we found another hike to a waterfall which was very rewarding.
Thursday was more wet and rainy but we found another waterfall and a short hike which Mackenzie did almost the whole thing by herself. We ate lunch at a BBQ joint because, NC. That afternoon we went to another local hiking area called Jump Off Rock and then back for more custard. We completely fell in love with Hendersonville and can't wait to visit again as there are many more things to do there.
Friday was our last driving day. Back to Virginia. We got into Ashville for a donut stop at Vortex donuts which was reported to be good. There was a line out the door and the donuts were tasty. For lunch we stopped at Cook out for shakes then drove to a local park for a picnic and to stretch our legs. Back in the car we drove another several hours to Winchester which was our final destination on this trip. We drove all day in the rain and only the last hour did it let up. We met with Kiersten's parents at their barn for a quick reunion before they let us crash for the next few days.

Saturday we drove to Ashburn to see Scott's parents and get a few errands started. We wore masks the whole time as we weren't technically done with our quarantine. That night back at the barn we had a bonfire with hotdogs.
Sunday we drove to Skyline drive for a little hike in Shenandoah National Park. That afternoon we found a local elementary school that had one of the best and biggest playgrounds we've ever seen. We all had a great time running around and burning off our pent up energy.
Monday we went back to Shenandoah for another longer hike. We had a picnic lunch up at the lodges then hiked to an overlook. We drove back into Front Royal and stopped at Splunkers for burgers and shakes. And our last night at the barn we did some more fire!
Tuesday we were finally finished! We drove to Ashburn to begin the next step of our journey to Kuwait. More to come.
