It took about the whole week to get back in sync with our normal lives. We made several trips to the grocery store and stayed home just about every day except Thursday. It's 'despedida' (farewell) season at the Embassy and almost a quarter of the current American families are leaving. We've grown really close to many of the families here at post so it's been a tough realization. We attended just such a 'despedida' on Thursday night. Our nanny came late that day to stay with the girls and we went to an out door dining area. The owner is an American who married a Paraguayan and moved here and opened a food truck called Travelin' Truck and also has a stand alone restaurant. The evening was chilly and the company was wonderful. We have a very close-knit community down here so when the time comes for us to leave it will be very sad.

So many friends! We are tiny in the back row.
They have some of the BEST burgers in Asuncion and just added tacos to their menu.
Friday was a chill day. We usually go out in the afternoons when Scott comes home from work but after three weeks of eating out we wanted a home cooked meal and intimate family time. Saturday Mackenzie woke up not looking or acting like herself. She went back to bed, snuggled on the couch with Mom and didn't complain when we turned off the TV and said she needed to sleep. And then she threw up. But that was it. She seemed a little better in the afternoon after a 2 hour nap. During which time Kiersten drove all over Asuncion looking for a traditional Paraguayan dress for a school activity on Monday which she never found. Luckily for her, she texted a good, local, member friend about such a dress and she happened to be shopping and bought us one, as a gift! She's so sweet.
Sunday was very low-key. Just went to Sacrament Meeting since Mackenzie as recovering. It was nice to be back in our home ward and receive warm 'welcome home' greetings from the members. We napped, talked to grandparents, played and ate dinner. Sundays are such relaxing days.
And today was Dia de San Juan! We don't know what it is but Mackenzie celebrated it at school and made traditional chipa and other Paraguayan foods. She'd slept poorly the night before so Kiersten spent 30 minutes convincing an exhausted Mackenzie she needed sleep. She got sick one more time today but then seemed to be back to normal. No idea what's going on with her.
These poor flowers didn't last the 4 hours at school.
The Mackenzie Update:
- Her favorite number is thirty-nine-six. That's exactly how she says it. And it doesn't make sense. "I slept 39-6." "My party is at 39-6."
She came home with the Paraguayan flag on her check in support of the
National Soccer Team playing in a tournament. They beat Argentina! - Can't remember if we've mentioned this but she loves to say, "I a baby." and lay on the floor forcing us to carry her or get her out of some thing. It doesn't always work because we are the adults and have better counter arguments.
- Since she is three now we're going to make her earn her keep at home. This week we worked on sorting clothes and folding pants. She did great!
The Finley Report:
- Eight months old! How did this happen?! She is growing waaay too fast. She sits up like a champ, loves solid foods and eats a ton, wants to crawl so badly and is getting close to rocking on her knees and is babbling so much.
- We are working on baby sign language. Just 'more', 'please', and 'all done' for now.

She was Mommy's workout buddy one morning. That foam fish is her favorite chew toy. - New solids: spinach, blueberries, strawberries and broccoli. We decided to combine these foods with other's she knew because plain spinach is plain nasty.
- Her eye color looks to be changing. Which means they could still be hazel, the changeling of eye colors, or they might be a lighter brown than Mackenzies.
We're thinking about a short trip over the Fourth of July holiday next week. Might finally go to the Falls! We'll let you know next week!
