It is birthday season at Small Seeds Preschool. Every week this month there has been a birthday in Mackenzie's class. So this week started with a birthday and ended with the Spring Festival! Party, party, party for that little girl. She helped Mommy make a hat for the festival and proudly wore it all the way to school. It's interesting to think, her Spring Festival last year was also her last day of school because that weekend Mackenzie and Mommy went back to VA for the rest of the year for Finley's birth. Not so this year! (So happy that part of our lives is over!)

Scott caught a bad bug this week and felt fine during the day but awful when he got home. We really hope he mends up this week and no one else gets it.

Finley has been drooling and eating a lot this week. So we think she's teething and going through a growth spurt. Twice on Sunday while she was crawling she lifted her knees and looked like she was going to bear crawl but remained in a baby downward facing dog position. She is also trying so hard to build strength in her legs to pull herself up to standing. She gets a little bit closer each day!

Kiersten trained both her clients this week and taught music lessons to her student. The rest of the week she spent cleaning and cooking in preparation for two different events at our home. The first was an Embassy event called CLO Coffee. Yes, the Mormon girl hosted an event and served coffee. Coffee that she didn't prepare or know how to buy, we might add. Did you know there are almost as many coffee filter options as there are coffee options?! Yeah, it was a bit overwhelming. But! The event itself was a huge success and it rekindled Kiersten's love of hosting and having parties.

That was on Thursday. The other event was on Friday for some of the American LDS ladies in the area. We are saying good-bye to two of them this week and Kiersten hosted the farewell with a big Cafe Rio style lunch. Everyone who came contributed some of the meal including homemade horchata (yum!). It was super fun to have everyone gathered together and laugh and build stronger ties before they leave Asuncion. We will miss them both.

Saturday was very low-key. Stayed at home so Scott could rest. Kiersten printed some pictures and took Mackenzie to the park again. Then we watched Washington beat our beloved Cougars in football and went to bed early.

Sunday was Stake Conference and once again Scott stayed home while Kiersten, just Kiersten this time, went to conference to play the piano for the choir and whole congregation. And again she gets to add another story to her "playing piano in foreign countries" saga. During the rehearsal before conference we were in the chapel using the actual piano which is electric and the power went out. So what did she do? She began to SING the piano part so the choir could stay on pitch. Didn't work but at least she tried. As soon as the power went out, people who weren't singing rushed out to get it back on and in 5 minutes we had a piano again. So it didn't last long but it was sure funny.
The rest of the day we didn't do much. We took naps, called grandparents, went to the park, and ate dinner while watching Frozen.

The Mackenzie Update:
- Speaking more and more Spanish everyday. It's finally starting to click!
- She is really getting the hang of her chore chart and wants to help more. Yes! That was the goal! She got 10 stickers twice this week in two different chores and got to paint her nails for one and get ice cream for the other.
Pink ice cream is for sure her favorite. - Mackenzie came with Mommy to an appointment with the new Regional Medical Officer (RMO) from Lima. She got a little checkup and Mommy got some questions answered about her like the scaly rash on her elbow and her cough. We hope we can get all that cleared up.
She wouldn't open her eyes. She is 3"3' tall.

The Finley Report:
- We've added a new favorite food to her routine: scrambled eggs. Kiersten made some mini egg cups for the CLO Coffee but they looked awful so she gave one to Finley and the baby devoured it. She loves that she can feed herself. We love that it's not banana and peanut butter and it's full of protein to keep her full... except it doesn't.
Yummy huevos! - We are starting to dilute her bottles because that formula is getting expensive to buy every week! Hopefully this reduces the need to purchase it. Also, she is eating more solid foods so it's not like we are starving her although she acts like we do. Baby drama.
- Talking more and more and more! In English AND Spanish. She can "say" 'gracias' (which is 'acias') and 'oopa' (just once). We swear after one phone call to Grandma Hammond she waved and said, 'buh-bye'. And she said, "da-da" to Scott this week too! What a smart girl!
- Finley turns 11 MONTHS tomorrow!!! Holy cow this year has FLOWN by! She is growing and learning at such an incredible rate. It's hard to believe she was 4 weeks premature. We love our little crawling, snuggling, laughing, happy baby! Kiersten has one month left to get ready for her birthday. Llamas and tacos will be involved....
